“When you work in the Kansas City non-profit sector, you find that there is often crossover among agencies. My first introduction to Flourish Furniture Bank happened when the agency was called My Father’s House. I was working for Jackson County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and had a case involving a teenager who had been living with a foster family. This teen was leaving their foster family and moving into their first apartment. With limited income and resources, furnishing this apartment was going to be a challenge. Fortunately, they were referred to My Father’s House! We were able to rent a U-Haul and help them pick out items that were perfect for their first home.
One of the many things I enjoy in my position here at Flourish is the connection and engagement with other non-profits. There are so many agencies doing good work in our city. If you are looking for a way to give back to your community, please reach out to us, or go to our website and look at our list of partner agencies. Share your time, talent or treasure with a mission that speaks to your heart!”
Karrie’s story is a testament to the interconnectedness of the nonprofit sector and the transformative power of our collaboration. Let’s welcome Karrie Duke as she continues to shape Flourish’s journey towards brighter futures for all.
