Kansas City lacks 64,000 units of affordable housing, leaving 87% of extremely low-income renters cost-burdened. For struggling families, furniture often falls to the bottom of the list of critical expenses, after rent, food, gas, healthcare, and childcare. However, an empty, unfurnished home is detrimental to every other aspect of daily life: from school and work to health and self-esteem.
